President:

The chapter president is, in essence, the chapter chief executive officer who is responsible for
leading and ensuring the chapter carries out its mission. The Barbershop Harmony Society and
the district rely on the chapter President as one of the primary contacts and communication links
between the Society, District and Chapter.

Secretary:

The Secretary is responsible for all the correspondence of the Chapter: corresponding with the Mid-Atlantic District, the Barbershop Harmony Society, the County, etc. A primary role is to register any new member with the Barbershop Harmony Society. The Secretary also receives most of the correspondence from the District and Society, such as membership cards and new member certificates.

Treasurer:

The Treasurer is a responsible for managing our budget and all funding, both income (e.g., donations, ticket sales, etc) and payments (e.g., operating expenses). The Treasurer also files the Chapter taxes and registers the chapter with the State Corporation Commission. This is a required position, elected by the Chapter members annually.

VP of Membership:

The role of the VP for Membership is to facilitate recruitment of new members as well as to establish and maintain member retention efforts. The Membership VP is often the first person any new member meets, as they will help guide the prospective member through the orientation process. The Membership VP will also reach out to absent or inactive members.

VP of Music and Performance:

The VP for Music and Performance develops and leads a music leadership team responsible for planning and facilitating the chorus music program. They also select coaches and performance review opportunities to help improve the musical quality of the chorus, and plan the rehearsal segments of the chapter meetings in conjunction with the chorus director as appropriate.

VP of Marketing:

The VP for Marketing manages our outward facing presence. This includes such things as social media, e.g., Facebook, MeetUp, and other social networking programs. They also oversee any marketing efforts, such as advertising for the County Fair, announcements of our performances, as well as developing marketing brochures, flyers or other media to share the story and mission of our chapter and Society. This is an elected position on the Board of Directors.

Member at Large:

The Members at Large advocate for all member's needs and desires, and provide insight and opportunities to the Board of directors. They are a link between the members and the chapter leadership, and provide advice on opportunities between the chapter and the community. They also support and assist with the implementation of goals, objectives and activities of the Chapter. The Members at Large should be finely attuned to the chapter membership, always looking for new activities, ways to improve the morale, and retain members.

Immediate Past President:

The role of Immediate Past President (IPP) is to maintain continuity of the Board and its activities as the officers change. The IPP is not an elected position, but rather, when a new President is elected the preceding President automatically becomes the IPP. The IPP primarily supports and advises the President, and any other officers as required. If the preceding President is unable to continue on the Board, such as in the case when the relocates or is medically unable to participate, it is common for a recent past President to step into the position, with the new President's approval.

VP of Music and Performance:

Music Director (Interim):

The Director's responsibilities include:
Serve as a member of the Music Leadership Team
Attend any scheduled Society, District or local training schools, seminars, etc.
Promptly handle any requests made by the District or Society.
Prepare musically and conduct the chorus in annual shows, contests, and other public music events in which the chorus sings
Participate in prospective chorus members musical fitness evaluation
Regularly evaluate the musical contribution of associate/assistant directors
Participate in the evaluation of the musical contribution of section leaders
Assist in the preparation of a 1, 3, and 5-year musical plan
Prepare a State of the Chorus report for the Chapter Board
Build and maintain relationships with outside coaches and local music educators
Encourage lifelong chapter member music education

Section Leader: Tenors:

The Section Leader, as the title implies, is the leader of the Section. They are responsible for the sound and quality of the section's rendition of the music, and advise the other members of the section of issues or errors. If needed, they may schedule separate rehearsals, solely for the section, outside of our regular rehearsals. When required, Section Leaders will also review each singers knowledge and singing quality. This may be in person or through electronic recordings. The Section Leader should be your first stop with any questions about or issue with the music, and should also be kept apprised should your be unable to attend any singing-related event. Sections Leaders are typically also on the Music Team.

Chorus Administration

 

Webmaster:

The Arlingtones website is the primary repository for all information about the chorus and chapter, for the members as well as the general public. This position is responsible for keeping the website updated. This includes such actions as keeping the members list accurate and up to date; when acquired, adding new music to the music library; and as necessary, sending updates and announcements to the members.
